What a fantastic concert!!
What a totally awesome and fantastic concert this was!!! I have never been treated to a better concert in my life (I'm 59) and I don't expect I will ever be treated to one in the future that would be any better than this one was. Every one of my favorite Elton John songs performed by this great array of musicians, this was totally a special and unforgettable evening!! Michael, the ASO, and the band were just topnotch in every way with their great performance of these thrilling Elton John songs. This concert was so good I would have gone back to see it a second time if I could have. (Hopefully Michael and the ASO will bring it back for another run sometime) if this concert comes to your town be sure not to miss it!
ASO presents Music of the Eagles
We have attended practically every Eagles concert given in Atlanta and were so saddened when Glen Frye passed away. When we saw the ad for this concert, we went online for tickets right away. Aside from it being absolutely stifling heat/humidity-wise, the singers' voices and guitar work- plus the ASO- were very good. But, it just wasn't The Eagles. Both groups did a very acceptable job, but the concert- in general- was one which I would not have gone out of my way to see/hear. Perhaps had the weather been a bit more bearable, we would have had a better time.
Atlanta Symphony Music of the Eagles was awesome!
The Atlanta Symphony music of the Eagles concert was awesome!! One of the better concerts I have ever been to. All my favorite Eagles songs, the excellence of the musicians, and the great and wonderful Chastain Park made for an unforgettable evening. I heard rumor that this was to be the last ASO production at Chastain, if so that is a shame because Chastain is such a great venue. (although I like the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre a lot too)
Anyway if that was the end of ASO at Chastain it was a great way to go out!! (of course I will follow such great shows to the Verizon Wireless)
Good show
We love the Atlanta Symphony and go a few times a year, usually to movie score shows. This John Williams tribute show used to be one of our favorites, but it just isn't the same once they moved it to the amphitheater in Alpharetta.
While they can fit a lot more people, sight-lines are tough (the pit is too low to see the orchestra and the elevated seats are too far. Acoustics are obviously inferior and the sound is the main reason to a see a symphony!! This particular venue is also far outside of the city, has a terrible parking lot (a muddy field with 30+ minute entry and exit times), and this particular show involved a 30 minute entrance time to get through security, some of which was in the rain.
The venue aside, we haven't enjoyed the traveling conductor they have used for this show. He introduces most songs with absolutely terrible jokes, some of which aren't even about the source material or John Williams in general.
Bring the show back to Symphony Hall and use an ASO conductor!!!
